Blue cloth boards with light staining at spine ends, foxing to pages, light wear to covers. The author of this book who is un-named passed out of Sandhurst two months before the outbreak of war. He went to France as a subaltern in one of the first battalions of the BEF to land there, fought in Belgium and Flanders and was awarded the Military Cross for gallantry during the retreat to Dunkirk. A great document of the confusion during the retreat with essentially untried troops (and officers). After a campaign in Africa and a period in Commancos, he trained as a Glider Pilot.
