Grey cloth covers titled in gilt on front and spine. Title page in red and black. Book is very clean and completely unblemished in every respect except for the sunned spine with light foxing and a few small water stains. The covers have sharp corners, binding is tight and solid, pages and full color plates are very clean with no marking of any kind. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 1929. An epic poem inspired by the actions of John Brown, abolitionist, who raided Harper's Ferry in West Virginia in 1859. He was captured and hanged for treason (and later acknowledged as a hero).His name and his rebellion against slavery inspired the American Civil War song "John Brown's Body". The poem covers the history of the Civil War. 454 pages with slipcase in excellent condition, though slightly sunned also.
