The binding is tight and solid, pages and illustrations are very clean with no marking of any kind. 277 pages with speckled page ends. Illustrations by George Him and preface by Douglas Cleverdon. Four page Sunglass notes are laid in and in excellent condition. Glossy black slipcase has light scuffing and chipped corners, no tears. The novel concerns a romance at Oxford University in 1911 in the height of the Gilded Age. Sir Henry Maximilian "Max" Beerbohm (1872-1956) was a humorist, satirist, and a brilliant writer. He grew up wealthy and loved to poke fun at the elite of London and the Empire. This is his only novel and is marvelous literature for the lover of humor and satire.
