Book is in excellent condition in every respect in black cloth. Sharp corners, square, straight spine, text block is solid and straight. Dust jacket shows light scuffing with one 1/4" tear at top front near spine, no edge wear. Catalog published in conjunction with the 1979-80 traveling exhibition of the same name. The collection focuses on three important schools of Japanese painting: Suibokuga (ink painting) of the Muromachi (1333-1568) and Momoyama (1568-1603) periods: Zenga or paintings by Zen Budhist monks of the Edo period (1603-1867); and paintings by masters of the Nanga or literati school, flourishing in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The exhibit also includes selected paintings from other schools of the Edo period.
